Occurrence remarks Epiphytic shrub, 15 m high in a tree, diameter of shrub c. 8 m. Leaves firm leathery, upper side glossy, dark green with a pale green primary vein, lower side almost dull (only in young leaves somewhat glossy), greyish green with pale green primary and secondary veins. Leaf buds often with a drop of dried orange resin on top. Calyx medium green. Corolla in bud medium green. In flower corolla tube light green, lobes creamy white. Anthers brownish green. Style very pale green, getting white towards the apex, stigma yellow. Flowers fragrant. Fruit elliptoid, 8 x 5 cm, medium green with tiny, pale green dots. Calyx remains are housing dark brown ants. Meso- and endocarp woody. Inner side of fruit almost completely filled with bone-like creamy white placenta tissue. Seeds pale brown, rather irregular shaped. This shrub is night-flowering. Buds do not open before dark. The flowers wither with the first rays of sunshine. Same individual as Wieringa & Nzabi 1037. Slides taken.
