Organism remarks | Single stemmed tree 10m high, 20cm diam, bark grey, smooth and covered with lichens, not exuding resin when cut. Leaves at the end of the branches but not in pseudowhorls, c. 35x6cm, thick leathery, main nerve prominent beneath, sunken above, secondary veins hardly visible. Fast growing basal shoot pale grey with very prominent leaf scars, leaves dark dull green above, pale green beneath, c. 60x8cm, evenly distributed, petiole dark green, clasping the stem for 3/5. Sapling c. 1m high, 1cm diam, leaves in pseudowhorls, c. 30x6cm, Inflorescence erect bright orange, bright red on the sunside, to 60cm long, persistent pedicel to 1cm long, bright orange. Inflorescence including pedicel feels as flexible as rubber, pedicel arranged in clusters of 3-4, more congested to the end of the racemose branches. |
