Occurrence remarks | Large liana, at very base trunk 21 x 9 cm, but soon becoming circular 9 cm in diameter, creeping over forest floor for 20 m before going straight up the canopy. Bark greyish orange. Young vertical shoots pentangular in cross-section caused by 5 ribs. Young leaf-bearing twigs sometimes flattened. Leaves leathery, upper side glossy, dark green, lower side glossy, medium green. Leaves with resinous threads on breaking. Wood reddish brown. Fruits seen with binoculars and collected on the ground. Pedicels seem to be fixed directly to leaf axils. Fruits irregular globose, up to 25 x 36 mm, warty, orange-red. A lot of the fruits on the ground were infected or aborted fruits. Seeds brown, surrounded by a thin layer of transparent sweet pulp. Cross-section of seed pale yellow. |
