Organism remarks Dominant forest tree, about 40 m tall, large cylindrical bole with buttresses, rough scaly red-brown, wood red, sapwood paler, open crown, young leaves at first bright red, turning pale green, lamina coriaceous, smooth, when mature shiny bright to rather dark green with prom. pale midrib above, paler with prom. yellowish midrib below, infloescence pale green, calyx similar, corolla white, stamens very dark yellow, pistil green, young fruits pale green, calyx accrescent and dark red in fruit, leaves on vegetation shoots and especially those of young plants considerably larger.
