Occurrence remarks | Tree, c. 40 m high. Trunk with 2 m high and 3 m wide buttreses. Diameter at 2 m height: 95 cm. Crown had shedded nearly all its leaves and was just making new flushes and flowers. Old leaflets thin leathery, upper side glossy, dark green, lower side dull, greyish green. Young leaflets soft leathery, upper side waxy, light green, lower side dull, pale green with pink glands, margins on both sides purple red. Stipules caduceous, red. Scales protecting the young inflorescences and leaves brown, apical ones red or greenish red, inner side pale purple, all with golden brown hairs. Peduncle green with brown hairs. bracts very early caduceous, linear, pinkish red. Pedicel blood-red. Bracteoles pink. Hypanthium blood-red. Sepals pink-red. Petals 3, lemon-yellow, pink at base. Filaments pale pink, anthers orange-brown. Style pink, ovary purple with white hairs along the sutures. Some old pods still on the tree. Some others found on floor. Flowers visited by small sunbirds. |
